Studio Renn presents [Prime]al IV, a showcase of collectible jewellery. [Prime]al, started as a study of the narrative in indigenous arts five years ago, has shaped into a contemporary indigenous aesthetic drawing upon processes of abstraction. Ideas of protection, fertility, myths of creation, and shifting perceptions of time and space have been distilled into simple forms and patterns through the Studio’s lens.
In its latest chapter, the Studio reflects through both introspection and retrospection—decoding the work of recent years and recoding it with greater intention. The new pieces feature significant gemstones – antique-cut diamonds, emerald and ruby cabochons, pearls – old-world materials that have been reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, within the language of [Prime]al.
The exhibit is designed in collaboration with Bombay-based architecture and design practice, Case Design, whose approach to indigenous materials and techniques further extends the narrative into the presentation as well.
