Shifting Identities

August 30-December 6, 2025

Artshila, Ambawadi, Ahmedabad, India

Arthshila Ahmedabad is delighted to announce the opening of Shifting Identities, curated by Archi Banerjee in collaboration with Deena Pindoria. The exhibition brings together craft practices from the West Bengal–Bangladesh and Sindh–Gujarat–Rajasthan borderlands, tracing histories of resilience, migration, and creative renewal. Now in its second iteration, building upon a well-received debut at Arthshila Santiniketan that examined how Partition reshaped textile traditions across South Asia, this edition turns its gaze to women’s lived experiences. Through the lens of gendered narratives, Shifting Identities explores how women redefined inherited traditions and transformed craft into a living archive of memory, continuity, and change. Featuring textiles, photographs, and archival materials, the exhibition highlights the intersections of craft, identity, and belonging. Each piece speaks to a complex negotiation between displacement and rootedness, between what is remembered and what is reinvented.
