Grosvenor Gallery, presents The Rising Crescendo of the Band Baja, an exhibition of new works by Adeela Suleman. Drawing on the traditions of South Asian ceremonial bands, the exhibition explores the histories of music, public spectacle and collective identity. Through intricate metal reliefs and textile works, Suleman places uniformed musicians within dreamlike landscapes filled with flowers, foliage and wild animals. Her works examine the relationship between celebration, political power and resistance, tracing how ceremonial traditions have been shaped by histories of empire, nationalism and independence movements.
