Tantra & Sufi

January 6-February 7, 2026

Aicon Art, 35 Great Jones St, New York City, New York, United States

Aicon Art presents “Tantra & Sufi” featuring the works of  Lancelot Ribeiro, Rachid Koraichi, GR Santosh, Prafulla Mohanti, Sohan Qadri. Mohanti, and Sohan Qadri, to explore how modernists have engaged with the esoteric visual languages of Tantra and Sufism. Though emerging from distinct theological lineages, both traditions cultivate experiential, embodied pathways to the divine and draw on geometry, repetition, and symbolic abstraction to structure states of heightened perception. Across South Asia and the broader Islamic world, these visual vocabularies developed in proximity, sharing an interest in breath, vibration, rhythm, and the dissolution of the self—concerns that modernist artists reimagined through their own formal innovations. Rather than illustrating doctrine, the artists translate these metaphysical ideas into contemporary painterly form, revealing how parallel mystical traditions can intersect within abstraction. Together, their works outline a transregional modernism grounded in the search for a visual grammar of the invisible.
