Akar Prakar presents Untimely Modernists, curated by Parul Dave Mukherji, bringing together works by Amrita Sher-Gil, Jamini Roy and Rabindranath Tagore. The exhibition revisits their practices through the idea of an “untimely” modernism that moves beyond a linear understanding of art history. It explores how the three artists challenged established ideas of artistic practice through experimentation with form, materials, techniques and cultural influences. The exhibition invites audiences to reconsider modernism as an evolving and open-ended history, where the past, present and future remain closely connected.
